I was surprised to learn that Dominoes Pizza was already planning on trying out drone delivery in New Zealand later this year. It's becoming increasingly clear that in 10 years there will be a lot of deliveries made by drone. The FAA is currently working on regulations for delivery drones. Once they are done and approved, the floodgates will be opened and drone delivery will become common place.
I wonder how much UPS or FedEx has invested in the technology...or if they are just going to eventually disappear as their business models become increasingly obsolete. Obviously there is still plenty of heavy things to deliver to keep UPS and FedEx busy, even if drones are delivering lighter products. However, if Amazon were to deliver much of their smaller products by drone there is no doubt that would lead to significant layoffs at the delivery companies. Amazon has even started leasing planes for transporting products between their warehouses.
