Engineers Developing Functional 3D Food Printer

Posted October 11, 2016 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Engineers from Columbia University have just revealed a prototype 3D food printer which looks a bit like a fancy coffee machine. The team has worked the past year to print food items using computer software and a variety of edible pastes, gels, powders, and liquids. The new printer is equipped with a robotic arm that holds eight slots for frozen food cartridges, and the team is planning to include an infrared heating element so the device can print and cook at the same time.

Makes you wonder if the research grants for this program were provided by the same people who brought you: f d & c red, poly sorbate 60, ester of wood rosin, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural and artificial flavoring and High Fructose corn syrup.
