Automotive Robots Step Out from Safety Barrier

Robots at the Smart Production Lab in Volkswagen's Wolfsburg plant are now able to process waves and gestures, as well as calculate all sequences of human motion, recorded by the sensors around its working area. This modification allows the robots to stop or slow work as necessary and work safely alongside humans.

As these are Volkswagen's robots, I wonder if they're safe only when somebody is looking.
