Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Bringing the Bat Boat in Line with the Batmobile: The Aqua Bat

Posted May 15, 2018 9:00 AM by dstrohl

“Holy Hemi Power!” Those were the words out of my mouth the moment I spotted Marty Martino’s latest project, “The Aqua Bat.” Though it will never float again, this customized boat will have a busy life providing a unique experience for children fighting serious illnesses.

Marty should be well known to Hemmings readers for his many projects, including restoring the 1955 Chevrolet LaSalle II concept car, cloning JFK’s Lincoln Limo, recently conserving a ‘55 Chevrolet display model, and building the PsyClone, a Corvette-based tribute to the Cadillac Cyclone from GM’s Motorama. Like the PsyClone, the Aqua Bat will be put to work at Charles Keller’s Colten Cowell Foundation, a nonprofit that helps the families of children nominated for a day as a superhero, including rides in a replica Batmobile.

It doesn't float, but it certainly does buoy the spirits of challenged children.

A boat that doesn't float, is an anchor. The children will sit in a boat on a trailer, pulled by a truck, on land ? Certainly challenged children deserve to be given a ride in a real ⛵
