Smart Ball Keeps Techie Kids Active

Posted August 23, 2018 10:00 AM by Reese

I recently read an article on Electronics360 about a new smart toy that keeps kids engaged in the technology they love while providing physical activity, which sounds like a rather winning recipe to me! Here’s what it is…

Currently on Kickstarter, Storyball will allow children ages 4-10 to act out stories and follow along with directions given by the screen-free toy to let their imaginations create an adventure. Haptic feedback and artificial intelligence allow the ball to react based on what the player physically does, so the kiddo is left in charge of where the story goes. There are different skins available to place on the Storyball offering children various quests, so parents can change up the fun and kids won’t get bored.

I feel like this toy offers a fantastic combination of technology, imagination, and exercise. It seems to have gotten quite a lot of support, so production appears imminent. The creators have slated November 2018 to start shipments to its Kickstarter backers, which makes me hopeful regarding possible regular consumer product availability either for the holidays or early next year. I’m excited to get my hands on one so my little man and I can explore for ourselves!

This was the dumb ball that kept me entertained as a kid. A cul-de-sac for a playing field and a few friends was all that was needed. Even as few as two could have a lot of fun with just pitching and hitting.

You could throw some really way out curve pitches with this ball with the right orientation and spin. No gloves or protective equipment needed. We would play for hours.

Have you seen some of the new wiffle balls they are making? Check out Blitzball and Swerveball. A little bit pricey, but wow, it's amazing how much break these things have when thrown. Pretty fun stuff.

Here is an interesting experiment that you can do. All that is needed is a basketball and a huge dam.
