Don't forget that Japan is in an active earthquake zone. Here you are,on the 12,000 foor level, and an earthquake happens. All the elevators have a plaque that says: In case of earthquake, DO NOT use elevator! Perhaps they'll put "firemen's poles" down stairwells so that one can "slide" down 12,000 feet (along with 800,000 other people using the exits!!!!). Wouldn't it be simpler and less costly to hollow out Mt. Fuji, and live inside their sacred mountain?

It's an interesting idea. I would think that a lot of businesses would have to be included in the building and that people would "commute" by elevator or small trams. There would probably be people who almost never left the building (unlike Elvis). There are so many ergonomic considerations - it would be an artificial environment. The upper levels (above 8,000 feet) would have to be pressurized and oxygen would have to be added to the intermediate levels if people were going to function at normal levels. I don't want to think about pumping water up 13,000 feet, so that's going to take some novel solution. I guess getting the sewage down isn't a problem though...

As far as evacuation is concerned I guess everybody will have to take up extreme base jumping!

Where can I get a job being paid to think about things like this?

How would you keep your ears from popping as you go up the elevator?

Maybe they can use the same technology as the space program!

What if there is a traffic jam on the pole-- who would cover the insurance? LOL!

What if they use parachutes for people who are up really high?

If the building were really climate controlled, the windows would be sealed shut -- how would you use a parachute?

This, like many other mega-structures proposed, will never see light of day. At least, not in it's current configuration. Projects like these take decades to realize, with many many design changes. My money says, not in the first half of this century.

BTW, the plan was to build this, man-made-Mount-Fuji, out to sea. AND, last time I checked, Burj Dubai was at 1759 ft.

I think the drawing follows the Eiffel tower design: I marvel at the base of such building, possibly 1/4 to 1/2 mile diameter; materials can be a combination of alloy metal for strengh and flexibility, plastics and other lightweight materials, the impossible is always attainable.
