Here is the solution (I think):

Clue#1: the remainder is zero, so decimal in quotient has to be ".2" or ".5" since the dividend is a whole number. If quotient has ".2", last digit in divisor is "5" and vice versa.

Clue#2: "_ _ 6", since nothing multiplied by 5 ends in 6, last digit in divisor has to be "2" and last digit in quotient has to be ".5" The first digit in the quotient has to be "3" (3 x 2 = 6) or "8" (8 x 2 = 16) to get "_ _ 6".

Clue#3: There are four digits in dividend (>1000). If the quotient is "AB.5" and the divisor is "C2" then the product of (10*A + B + .5) and (10*C + 2) has to be greater than 1000. This removes 22 combinations of the 180 possible combinations of A, B, and C (2 * 10 * 9).

As far as I can see (unless there is another clue that I missed), there are 158 solutions that work (180-22). Here is a listing of an array P which is the dividend, a 3d array of dimensions 2 x 9 x 9, where A is [3,8], B is [0:9] and C is [1:9]

Yep. I agree with SE but I am impressed you were willing to go though all of those steps you went through to show us how you got there. I don't think I'd have the gumption to do it, no, I know I don't have the gumption... The fact you came up with 158 different answers is beyond what I would have attempted. I was happy with the quick and dirty approach to an (1) answer...

Let’s note the digits as follows:

What is obvious from the beginning is that I=O, S=U=0 (zero) and R=T.

Since U=0, either E=5 and C=even or E=even and C=5. But L=6, so E cannot be 5 (no number multiplied by 5 can give a last digit 6) and only the second above case can be true.

So, C=5 and the only way TU can be a two digit number is if D=1 (any higher value for D multiplied by 5 would give a two digit value).

MNO minus PQ gives a one digit number – this can only happen if M=1, N=0 and P=9.

Since L=6 and E=even we can have only the following cases:

E=2 and A=3, E=2 and A=8

E=4 and A=4, E=4 and A=9

E=6 and A=1, E=6 and A=6

E=8 and A=2, E=8 and A=7

But F x 1E must give a three digit number and this can only happen If E=4 and A=9. Of course, this gives 5x14=70, so R=7 and 9x14=126, so J=1 and K=2 (we already know that L=6).

So, we have until now:

It’s easy to see that F=1, G=3 and H=6. Also, the only value of B that satisfies A=9 is B=7 (7x14=98), so B=7 and Q=8 which gives I=5.

I like a lot your approach and I think your result is correct, but when you state "F x 1E must give a three digit number and this can only happen If E=4 and A=9" I think you should mean A instead of F. Moreover this statement is not so immediate, because also the combination E=8 and A=7 gives the same three digits result of 126. So I would suggest the following correction in your text:

Ax1E must give a three digit number and given that L=6 and E=even, we can see that only the following two combinations are possible:

1) E=8 and A=7, or

2) E=4 and A=9

In both cases the result is 126 (9x14=126, or 7x18=126), so J=1 e K=2.

However, considering true the first combination E=8 and A=7, the only possible value is B=5 (5x18=90), so Q=0, but this do not satisfy R as a single digit (even if O would be 0, we would have 100-90=10, two digits).

By exclusion, the only correct combination is the second, E=4 and A=9, so B=7 (7x14=98), Q=8 and R=7.

You are right, it should be "A x 1E" (and not "F x 1E") and I should have also considered the A=8 and E=7 case. GA from me.
