Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Watch This: How to Film a Car Chase

Watching vintage car chase videos is a sort of guilty pleasure of ours, and we'll guess we're not alone there. The 1970s were probably the golden era of the silver screen car chase, and progressively more dramatic maneuvers and crashes seemed to be the order of the day.

We came across this one recently on YouTube, and we're not even sure of the movie's title--it's a French Canadian production, replete with French dialog, but that really doesn't matter here. This chase takes place in Montreal in the mid-'70s, with a '71-'73 Mustang that gives the impression of being a Mach 1 but is probably just a SportsRoof, judging from the plain flat hood. The pursuing vehicle is a '68 Buick four-door that is most likely a Special, given its spartan vibe. The inappropriate engine sound dubbing and inconsistent damage and other details on the Mustang are pretty typical of the genre and era, but the stunts are worth watching. Plus, any '70s street scenes are good for period car spotting. Check it out.

That was a great line.

How come Hollywood can't make a good film anymore? Whatever happened to fun and being silly?
