he largest-ever political summit on climate change got under way in New York City on Monday, with the head of the United Nations thanking the dozens of world leaders in attendance for sharing his concern about the environment.
Nearly 80 heads of countries gathered at the UN headquarters for the one-day summit to discuss ways to curb climate change.
The talks are in advance of the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali in December, where leaders are to forge a new deal to replace the Kyoto Protocol when it expires in 2012.
