LEDs Shine Bright

Posted October 15, 2007 8:19 AM

LEDs are making headlines all over the place. After more than a dozen years of development, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are heading to prime time in Sony's 11-inch flat screen television slated for a December release. Meanwhile, banking on bigger is better, Mitsubishi Electric has released a 140-inch LED display for indoor use. That's right, 140-inch, for that JumboTron experience right in the privacy of your own living room. And that living room may soon be lit by white LEDs, if scientists in India have their way. They've developed a new conversion phosphor based on nanocrystals that offers better stability and lifetime.
