Battlefield Robotics

Posted October 17, 2007 8:13 AM

In Iraq, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) track terrorist movements, and remotely-controlled robots detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Robots are being developed to retrieve injured soldiers, carry equipment and gear, perform battlefield surgery, and enhance surveillance capabilities — among other possibilities. Is the day coming when robots will not only supplement ground troops with supportive action, but actually replace significant numbers of foot soldiers?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Robotics Systems, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Robotics Systems today.

It is already happening and will certainly accelerate just like WWI & WWII advanced the technology of flight, motorized vehicles, and many other fields.

There is another way to move equipment over rough terrain. Please go to google, click on video, type in 'rough terrain walker mechanism' in the search box and then click search. You will see a 2.5 minute video on my robotic mechanism for moving over rough terrain. Several modified versions are not shown, but if you have any questions I will try and answer them.
