Camera Maps Robot Environment

Posted July 12, 2016 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

A robot can easily peer into tight spaces using an arm-mounted camera. When constrained to move in the same geometry as the arm, the camera provides image information that, combined with the known joint angles, produces a high-quality 3D map of the environment. This approach works "even if the camera is moving very fast or if some of the sensor data is missing," as demonstrated in this video.
