Blast Barrier Brainstorm

How does gardening relate to shielding the effects of a bomb blast? One word; Perlite. The white crunchy stuff mixed in with potting soil has a more serious application when ingeniously packaged as shock absorbing blankets that can be applied to everything from garbage receptacles to the belly of military vehicles. Are there any industrial applications?

In other ways too...a row of trees would doubtless mitigate the effects of a blast!
