Harnessing Wind Power With Sails

Posted November 08, 2007 5:06 PM

From electro^plankton:

Architects Chetwood Associates are applying for a grant to build a large wind dam in Russia. The dam will be located over an extremely windy gorge at Lake Lagoda in northwest Russia. The 75-meter sail, the first of its kind, will funnel the high winds down to a turbine. Although the company doesn't mention how much electricity the wind dam can produce, the prospects of new building projects staying green is a definite sign of improvement and advancement.

I hope they model it first. Could the presence of the structure actually changed the aerodynamics of the area and stopped the wind??

BTW... I believe I once read that somewhere or other in medieval times they thought the wind was caused by the trees shaking their braches ... what a lovely idea .
