If you assume 10 feet between floors and disregard acceleration/deceleration, you are crusing along at a stately 15.48MPH (24.9 KPH). Of course, you have to start from zero and stop. Man that doesn't sound right.

It's the acceleration that gives you the thrill, though. How many floors does it take to achieve 0G?

The speed doesn't bother me; you don't know it anyway.

Its the world's slowest elevators, the hydraulic's (in U.S., think Sears) that give a painful dose of inter-vertebral nerve compression that I hate;

That and my first "ride" in the open-view glass car, and being launched in it, out the top of Dallas' Reunion Center hotel skyscraper. Quite a heart stopper!

38mph I can relate to that ... pretty impressive.

Maybe it starts reeeeel sloooow then goes a 1000 MPH for 80 floors then slooooows down to a stop. It could then be classified as a portable toilet.

The true experience is when you have reached the 89th floor and your head smacks into the ceiling.

1000 miles / hr speed of elevator max .the distance is approx 265meters it has to cover , this quiet high speed when we take G forces acticting at verticle movements , this speed is wrong or matter astronughts .

In San Francisco's financial district, there's a 40 some story building. On top of which is the Mandarin Oriental hotel, a very up-scale hotel that takes up 12 stories in two towers built on top of the building. When you go to the hotel, the elevator is fast enough to make your ears pop!

The only thing I've experienced that's more intense is driving my Porsche turbo up an over pass fast enough to make my ears pop!

Also, realize that as you travel in the elevator, you age slower than everyone else on Earth, so you're younger than they are!
