Getting the Most from Temporary Employees

Posted February 12, 2008 8:06 AM

Warehouse and distribution center managers often rely on temporary employees to fill in during periods of peak demand. Problems can arise if the hiring of these employees is left completely in the hands of a local temp agency. The best results are achieved if managers devote time and effort to selecting and managing temporary employees. This article lists a number of sources of temporary workers beyond the traditional temp agency, including specialty agencies, colleges, and family members of full-time workers. How do you deal with temporary spikes in demand? Do you hire temps? How effective are they? What is the best source?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Material Handling, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Material Handling today.

Companies that require many temp workers to compete typically have severe problems as far as the efficiency of their floor operations, systems and management.

I have developed a system for understanding and improving the processes that call for reliance on temporary workers, so as to diminish the need for them and improve the flow on the work floor.

If you are really interested check my identity avatar box and write me a private message. I've had many jobs and am a librarian of work.
