Leprechauns, Unicorns, Free Energy

Posted November 15, 2006 10:00 PM

Is this just another Irish myth or should we take it seriously? By juggling magnets in a certain way developers in Ireland say they have hit on a way of obtaining free energy from their apparatus. They have thrown down the gauntlet to the scientific community to prove them wrong. Is this a perpetual motion machine driven by a unicorn?

<Sigh>. Came across this a while ago. How many laws does this violate, let me count thy ways..... This is the second one in as many weeks. Must admit that they have at least tried to get their labwork correct. 285% efficiency for a lab rig is quite nice.

Must also admit, they have done a nice job with the challenge, which will drag this out for some time to come before it all falls over. Least we not forget previous examples of people demonstrating impossible things in a monitored and controlled environment and fooling scientists (for example - the man who could move a cup across a table without touching it by looping a nearly invisible hair over it and pulling). This fooled the scientists for quite a while. I bet they felt quite foolish in the end. Sometimes people cannot see the wood for the trees. I wonder what test will show this to be the same. I'm placing my bet on incorrect lab results and equipment accuracy issues.

In the late 1970s a motor constructed exclusively from permanent magnets was demonstrated. Its inventors made similar (and similarly fantastic) claims about it being the energy source of the future. Turns out the motor petered-out after awhile when the magnets stopped being magnets. Seems the thing was powered by the so-called magnetization energy that went into making the magnets magnets?

I'm EXTREMELY skeptical, but try to be open-minded. If their system works, all they have to do is use the extra energy it is producing to generate electricity to power the measurement devices and a few LED indicators, all inside a Faraday Cage. Of course they would have to be careful it didn't overheat if they didn't use all the extra energy powering those devices!

All of the things with this claim I have seen or heard of turned out to be complicated magnetic transmissions.

Reminds me of a science fiction story I read once. A man invented a perpetual motion machine, made the whole world wealthy, and became a world hero. One day, aliens landed and presented him with a bill for the power.

How many thousand perpetual motion machines have people claimed to have built over the last couple of hundred years? Even here at CR4 we seem to get one every month or so. All I can say is'

Many have tried but ALL have failed.

If it is proven that it dose what they claim I'll be waiting for the bill from the aliens.

As usual, I'm left thinking "gee, wouldn't that be nice."

Even Tesla never claimed to have found a greater-than-unity technology, only that he was trying to tap into energy already present and flowing through the space where he was trying to harness it.

IF anyone ever finds a way to build an "energy antenna" that can produce usable work out of a system we can build, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it was magnetically based, since what little I've read (or the littler I've understood) of quantum theories at this point explains neither magnetic nor gravitational field issues, and "dark matter" theories do not (yet?) provide us with a way to fabricate a product that can USE it. Anything that we actually build that tests "over-unity" would likely be 'simply' draining extra magnetic flux or something from the huge rotating magnetic field that is the earth.

Wouldn't that be typical for the enviro-wacko's to finally solve whatever human contribution may exist to "global warming" by getting free electricity through large-scale devices that turn out to cause "global slowing."

Ha ;)

Best Wushes to All

After reading all above I have no additional commnet to make, but a question: How was this universe created --which we believe is conserved?

Any answers?

Good Luck!

What does "How was this universe created --" have to do with whether its possible to obtain 'Free Energy'?

I used to have a toy race car set as a kid. it consisted of a plastic track in the shape of a big O with two long straights and two 180 degree backed corners. it was just flat palstic with edges to stop the cars flying off. The cars were powered by a small capacitor battery driving a conventional 3V electric motor.

The interesting bit though was one lead from the battery ran down the side of the car and had a small magnet glued to the top. To control the car's speed there were two magnetic bars under the track, as the car passed over the magnet they either sped up of slowed down. I found that by carefully positioning the bars about 15% of the way past centre on each side of the track in speed up position the little car, which normally ran for about 4 0r 5 minutes. would run at about 3/4 top speed for days on end. I think I got it up to 5 days before my parents forced it back into the box....

I never did figure out how it worked... I thus have sympathy with these guys as they appear to have found the same or similar phenomenum. I like the idea that the energy comes from reductions in the magnetic organisation of the molecules. this would concur with the process used in electron magnetometers to meassure magnetic fields.

Yes Believer, exactly the amount of energy to create all the matter, visible or otherwise, and all the energy in the universe

Thanks.

But why, and wherefrom did it come, and in such a short time as the big bang! What was "there" before?

You can't have a before the big bang because the big bang created all the energy and matter as well as space and time. That means there is no before and because it creates space as well there is no where. In other words the big bang was at time 0 and you need consider it in the same way as absolute 0 is with temperature, i.e. you cant have a negative value as when you have removed all the energy, or in this case time, there is nothing left to remove.

One possibility that genii like Hawking are working on is the possibility that if one adds all the matter-energy (from e=mc2) and all the gravity together, the answer is zero...

Oh I see you wish to know the answer to life, the universe and everything.

Thats easy, the answer is ................... FORTY TWO!

But I thought everybody knew that.

To Quote Douglas Adams in his book The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.

A group of pan dimensional creatures (actually white mice) constructed a super mega computer called Deep Thought to calculate the meaning of life the universe and everything. There was much debate between the scientist the philosophers whether or not to ask Deep Thought the question. You see the philosophers were worried that all their debating over the existence or nonexistence of God would be worthless when Deep Thought gave you Gods phone number.

Deep Thought solved the problem by working out that for it to calculate the meaning of life the universe and everything it would need four an a half billion years This made both the scientists and philosophers very happy because they could continue slaging each other off for all that time over what they thought Deep Thought would say after its very long calculation.

After the required run time a conversation something like this took place.

Operators: Just imagine after all this time Deep Thought will solve everything by giving us the answer to life the universe and everything.

Deep Thought: Yes can I help you?

Operators: Well what is it?

Deep Thought: What is what?

Operators: The answer to the ultimate question, you know the answer to life the universe and everything.

Deep Thought: Oh that, Yes I have the answer to life the universe and everything, but your not going to like it.

Operators: Please tell us the answer.

Deep Thought: Your really not going to like it.

Operators: Pleas just tell us the answer.

Deep Thought: Are you sure because your really not going to like it.

Operators: Stop mucking about and just give us the answer.

Deep Thought: The answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything is..

Operators: Yes, yes!!!

Deep Thought: FORTY TWO!!

Operators: What?

Deep Thought: Forty two.

Operators: For and a half billion years and that's all you've got to say for yourself?

Deep Thought: I told you, you weren't going to like it.

Operators: There going to lynch us!

So that's why the answer is forty two. I suggest you read the five books in the inaccurately named Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy trilogy

The hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy

Life the Universe an Everything

The restaurant at the End of the Universe

So Long and Thanks for All the Fish

Mostly Harmless

There are many other gems like why the existence of the babble fish (a universal translator that you stick in your ear) is the proof of the nonexistence of God. I recommend them they're an hilarious read.

Oh well, good call on the 42 though...
