Home Grown Car Parts

Posted April 06, 2008 8:00 AM

Great gas mileage is the primary attraction of hybrid vehicles, but green minded consumers can also choose based on the materials used to build them. Consider the recycled plastics and plant based fabrics used in their construction. These lightweight green materials are nearly impossible to distinguish from conventional parts. Can green materials be use throughout industry?

Great proposal.

I think that great gas mileage interest is based on gasoline prices, not on green mindedness. Place gasoline price at U$8 per gallon, and you will see how that will turn everybody green minded.

When gasoline prices hit $8/gal (U.S.) everybody will turn RED.

I would disagree that the "green" attitudes that are growing in society are solely a function of fuel prices.

The Green parties in Europe have been strong - to protect the planet - from long ago when the fuel was still cheap. Their policies have a strong influence on European regulations.

May I suggest that the average American consider their input to climate change when compared to a British driver who pays approaching $10 per gallon and who shortly will only be allowed to buy a car if the manufacturer can demonstrate a corporate average of LESS than 125 grams of CO2 emission per km. That is about one third to one quarter of the emissions per mile of the typical American car.

One world - one atmosphere - one set of emissions regulations?
