What is the Ultimate Apocalypsemobile?

Posted June 05, 2008 9:19 AM

From Wired Top Stories:

When the world turns to crap and we're wandering the wastelands scrounging for food and fuel while fighting off zombies, what do you want to be driving? The people at WIRED will be in a Honda CRX. Through both his environmental and foreign policy, George W. Bush has set in motion events that will likely destroy the world as we know it. Our land will cease to support life, our cities will become havens for gangs of the violent undead and we will all be forced out into the scorched wasteland to fend for ourselves, looting gas stations for canned goods, stockpiling water and food. But what will you drive when it all comes tumbling down?

Oh, no. Another "The End is Near" poster bearer.

Just how many times must the world end before they get it?

I agree with Anonymous Hero. This is a dumb Hollywood scenario. First of all, when things do get bad (natural disasters etc.) people always tend to clan together and often show the better sides of thier character. Stories of bravery and charity abound. Yes there are those that loot and lay waste but they are most often put down. Conditions have a tendancy to stabilize sooner rather than later.

An atomic-powered pogo stick. All that bouncing will cause the pursuing zombie's heads to move up and down so much that they will fall off. Any left will be felled by my lousy impersonation of Mel Gibson from the "Mad Max" movies.

Exactly what I was thinking! Though I would likely be on the other side as one of Lord Humongous's minions. My ride would be a Suzuki GS900 and choice of weapons, crowbar with a backup chain, maybe some ball bearings in my jacket pocket too.

A stock Civic CRX? I'd have it apprehended and would be siphoning all its gas within minutes.

If I'm unlucky enough to survive the initial blast/superquake/ tidal wave/comet hit/rabid zombie Chihuahua attack, et al, I'll be driving 2 size 10 hiking boots, a 12 gauge, my ammunition/food/moonshine/woman/ drug sniffing dog, but probably no Honda.

Maybe the dog will survive the first winter, oh, wait a minute, won't it be nuclear winter right away? Better throw the longjohns in the pack now.

George W. Bush doesn't have the brains to "set in motion events that will likely destroy the world as we know it".

Look up the sci-fi books of David Weber. I want a Bolo Mark XX. Nuclear powered hovertank, a Continental Siege Unit.

Since that hasn't been built yet, perhaps one of those tanks with wheels instead of treads.

Another hate-filled critic of GWB, predicting doom and gloom. Fairly typical of that political persuasion to be a hater of anyone he disagrees with. Get a life!!!

[And no I do not want him to reply to me with hate. I did wish him to have a better life.]

The Apocalpsemobile author is just trying to write a witty piece about really nothing.

At this point I have no political persuasions anymore. We live in a worldwide political wasteland. Does anyone think BHO can do a better job? However we vote, it's pick your poison.

Don't put your life in anybody's hands but your own. My mother tought me that when I was 2.

I think we'd probably be better governed if the people to fill every office, after meeting basic criteria, were chosen at random. It is hard to trust a politician who actually wants the job. I'd feel better about someone who had to be pushed into the job and reluctantly accepts it out of a sense of duty.

My choice dropped out early and the ones I would have liked to see run for president didn't try. I guess I am stuck with the least objectionable choice again.
