Technology Reshapes America's Classrooms

From online courses to kid-friendly laptops and virtual teachers, technology is spreading in America's classrooms, reducing the need for textbooks, notepads, paper and in some cases even the schools themselves. Just ask 11-year-old Jemella Chambers. She is one of 650 students who receive an Apple laptop each day at a state-funded school in Boston. From the second row of her classroom, she taps out math assignments on animated education software that she likens to a video game.

This is news? Technology (of one sort or another) has been reshaping our classrooms since the days of the one-room schoolhouse. Anybody else remember the Bell Labs presentations at assemblies? For better or for worse, we are in the twenty-first century, although there's a case to be made for the quality of the educational process having been better back in those one-room schools. Class sizes were pretty favorable then, too!
