What You Really Want to See

Posted September 16, 2008 8:31 AM

You told me (and independent studies confirm) that price is the biggest factor in choosing a display — more important than bells and whistles, than style, than resolution, brightness, power consumption, or eco-friendliness. But after price, what works for you? Is bigger better? Is thinner in-er? Other than price, what do you care about most in your HDTV, your cell phone, and all the screens in-between? Do you have an impossible (or maybe a possible?) ideal display?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Display Technologies, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Display Technologies today.

I ussualy go for established technologies, new technologies are interesting but ussualy have still minor bugs, (like plasma tv), price is an issue, pixel defects, Backlight performans (heat buildup and such).

Well HDTV's will only last 5 to 6 years then the screens will begin to fade.

Where the old T V's would last 30 years easy.

So where is the ECO thing if the buy trash buy cycle is not broken.

For the last moniter I bought, I shunned the shiny glossy faces and surfaces for a matte finish. Less reflection and glare on my poor eyeballs.

Displays are alot like hi-fi speakers, you can't just go by the specs, you need to see (hear) them.
