Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

The World's Biggest Motorcycle

Posted October 16, 2008 12:01 AM by dstrohl

This bike sits in front of the Wheels Through Time motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. It is billed as the world's largest, rideable motorcycle chopper (pay no attention to the training wheels under the primary cover). It will seat five people and is 23 feet long and eight feet high. It was built for the TV show of the same name on the Discovery Channel, then purchased by the museum. When I visited there last summer, the owner of the museum Dale Walksler fired it up and rode it around the parking lot with his dog on board.

No tech detail... Is that really the engine or just a casing over the real motor?

What motor?

A big case is no replacement for a big engine.

I would like to see it coming down the parade route any day..

kids must past out when they see that thing.

Meh....it's not what it is (just an outsized toy with a golf cart engine)

But where this is - Maggie Valley is one of the nicest areas to be seen around here

Just get off the main roads and you are talkin' beauty!

I'd like to see some specs too. If that's the real engine, it's 'way overpowered!

I saw the show that they built this in. The motor is just a housing for all the smaller drive components. If memory serv me correctly it is run by something like a small 4 cycle enging driving a hydraulic motor with all the pump equipment contained inside the big fake motor.

Im pretty sure this other bike is bigger, if only heavier with a real unique engine. An old Russian tank engine powers it I believe.
