Nintendo recalls Wiimote straps, saves millions

Somebody goofed big time. It is going to cost Nintendo Millions for the recall/replacement program.

OTOH they may save on the expense of injury lawsuits.

Now THAT is how to make a rugged product (the controller, not the strap), pity they skimped on the hand strap. They don't make TV's like they used to (try putting a controller thru the thick leaded glass of a CRT). I like the one with the controller imbeded in the plastic front panel. At least it wasn't the AC power adaptor like the PS2.

I think there is not as smart Engineers as stupid people out there.

I think Engineers are facing with the reality that people get more stupid day by day and the Engineers can not handle it :).

It's not about the general population getting dumber (although they are certainly getting more overloaded by the vast amount of data being thrown at them from new sources such as the internet), its more about 'teething' issues with any new technology (especially if it involves a change in culture). The trick is not to get left behind (least you want to go to your kids for help each time you need to program up your VCR or reprogram your computer settings).
