Researchers Test Whether Sharks Enjoy Christmas Songs

Posted December 18, 2008 9:37 AM

From Slashdot:

Scientists plan to test whether sharks enjoy listening to Christmas pop songs, after US research showed fish could recognize melody. Chris Brown, senior marine biologist at the Loch Lomond aquarium, said seasonal music would be played through walkthrough underwater tunnels where they can be heard by dozens of nurse sharks, black-tip reef sharks, and ray species. Experts will then monitor the sharks' reactions to different songs. We'll play everything from Kim Wilde and Mel Smith's Rocking Around the Christmas Tree and Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade to Wham's Last Christmas. We may find they prefer something softer like White Christmas by Bing Crosby," Brown said. Thank you for answering this question science.

No, no, no..."Secular songs associated with the season of the winter solstice". I'm sure there is government funding in there somewhere - separation of church and state must be maintained!

Yes, this and countless other federally funded science experiments of equal merit just warm the heart.

I really need to learn how to write proposals for research grants.

--- Do rocks dream?

--- Can eggs spontaneously roll up hill?

--- If you are lucky, can you still loose your mind?

--- If the sky is blue, can this cause depression for air passsengers?

Unfortunately, the list goes on.

My nickname has been Shark for most of my life... so to answer their question, no I don't really enjoy Christmas music very much.

Who cares what they like? Our tax dollars hard at work.I have questions I would like to get research money for.For instance,is polish Polish? Are finish nails made in Finland? Are there any pencils in Pennsylvania? Is it chilly in Chile? If Saudi Arabia attacked Turkey from the rear, would Greece help? These and more burning questions are just waiting to be answered, but I need funding to set up a committee to get funding to do a study on the feasibility of getting funding for the study. All contributions accepted.Send all donations to S.P.O.N.G.E (Society for the prevention of nerds getting everything). Bless you my child.---------------------------------------------------------------- Dr Stu Pidass ,Esq.
