Automakers respond to Calif. suit

Posted December 19, 2006 7:24 AM

From detnews.com - Autos Insider:

WASHINGTON -- Lawyers for the largest U.S. and Japanese automakers Friday asked a federal judge to throw out a suit filed by California that claims vehicle carbon dioxide emissions are harming the health of Californians and damaging the environment in the Golden State.

And so we allow the lawyers to perpetuate the blame culture. As the quote goes, there must be a law against killing lawyers, as there's some left!'

California is an interesting case where green extremist mentality (and not a lot of proper research and common sense) is going to cause big problems (certainly financial) for them in the future, without actually protecting the environment. This is just another example of trying to do the right thing, but in a hopelessly wrong way. I say, agree to pull all motor vehicles off the streets of California (fight stupidity with stupidity). People need a wakeup call to come to their senses.

I still cannot believe their has been such a market for solar power plants using standard solar panels that will never, ever produce as much energy as was used to pull the materials out of the ground to create them. Just because the real costs are hidden doesn't make them go away (neather does the illusion of the green "feel good factor"). Still, people cannot see these hidden costs, but they can sure see clouds from the coal plants! We are all so stupid.

Perhaps I will go over and sell them some magic beans.

I agree 100%.

Also, CA is suing those with the deepest pockets. They need to include the manufacturers of lawn mowers, motorcycles, the 4mpg exotics that all the Hollywood celebs drive, etc... I think they should ban gas power all together and see what happens.

Honestly manufacturing of photovoltaics is becoming more efficient. They might be able to become environmentally and economically viable in 10 years now opposed to 30. I think Hybrid cars should be a nice catalyst to get the ball rolling toward something better. Hydrogen fuel cells is a perfect example. Through electrolysis, it takes way more coal burning at the old plant then can the energy the cell provides. The enzyme approach seems promising. Just keep your fingers crossed they don't evolve into human eating mutant enzymes!

I think more focus should be placed on evolving the current technology. Making engines more efficient, like the diesel for example. ...and recollecting expended energy, heat collection and regenerative braking. If their were affordable steam engines available, I'd install one right away! With wood (unseasoned) still at $120 a full cord in my area, it could be the most cost effective fuel.

Maybe they can do a "vehicle-free for a week" thing. Just make everyone walk to work, school, etc, and then see if the environment improve. Kind of like a data study.

Perhaps these Lawyers could spend their time studying physics and engineering. Then they can put their intellect and creativity to use actually solving the problem instead of abusing our court systems. This kind of mess drives up taxes because of the need to handle more load in the court systems. It also drives up the cost of our automobiles since the auto makers now have to hire more lawyers to defend themselves from such nonsense.

I think they should all stop drinking soda and breathing as this also causes CO2 to be released.

This suit is so patently whacko-nutso-crazy that I wonder if the petroleum lobby didn't create it to cast California environmentalists as lunatics. Even if it were done by environmentalists as a publicity stunt, knowing they could not possibly win the suit, they would be shooting themselves in the foot -- what an incredible waste of their own resources. Environmentalists in California have done some good things, but if this is really their action, it's is certainly not among those good things.
