Exposure limits for low-frequency magnetic fields established in the directive are argued to be founded on obsolete data. Its implementation would render a suite of MRI procedures illegal and result in increased use of diagnostic X-rays and attendant radiation exposures to workers and patients. Implementation is postponed until April 2012, affording time to consider possible outcomes. What can be done to secure MRI benefits in the EU?
