(Video) World's First Color Changing LED Faucet

Posted December 20, 2006 7:20 AM

From TechEBlog:

This could quite possibly be the world's first color changing faucet — built-in LEDs change colors based on the water temperature. There is also "precise control" for baths, sinks, and showers. No word yet on pricing and availability. Check out the Video of an early prototype.

I only want one if it plays "Oh Fortuna" by Carl Orff like in the demo.

Hey Roger, now that would take all the fun out of showering! Singing in the shower/ bath is a internationally recognised form of stress relief, its supposed to put you in the pink(except of course for the people having to listen)

Of course you realize that that they have the colours back the front. Blue having a shorter wavelength and higher frequency is a higher energy light that red. I would therefore postulate that the colour correlation should be RED indicates COLD and BLUE indicates HOT. Everybody has been doing it the wrong way around and it's time to remedy this obviously erroneous colour coding.

Reminds me of a low voltage lighting control system. Designed and built in Japan, it was green for "on" and red for "off". When marketed in the USA, it was changed to red for "on" and green for "off".

Masu,

I think you're overthinking it a bit. Red is a warm color and blue is a cold color. Everyone learned this in kindergarten art class.

I'm with Masu. Red stars are cooler than blue stars. My kindergarten teacher was married to an astronomer. And the last time I ate a blue chili pepper I was in the loo for a week.

Guest go and get a Bunsen burner and set it so that the flame burns yellow then stick your finger in it. When you finish with the first aid open the vent so it burns blue and stick another finger in the blue flame. When you get back from the hospital post which colour hurt the most and see if you can figure out which is the hotter one.

PS I am assuming you are smart enough not to actually do this but you never know some of the posts I read could be from people that would actually stick their finger in a flame if told to do so. Pleas don't stik you finger in a bunsen burner flame.

Teh world is plagued with scientific misconceptions, the time has come to correct them!

Now, how about those electrons...

Ah, I was refering to the electron flow direction, but you are rignt.

For those interrested in this thinking scheme, see all about the misconceptions regarding light: http://home.netcom.com/~rogermw/darksucker.html

Even worse, in some countries, people put the hot water on the right faucet!

You wrote: "Even worse, in some countries, people put the hot water on the right faucet!"

Here Texas you don't even need to leave town to find plumbing rigged like that. At least in some of the smaller, rural towns. It's funny how one town can be so totally (and willingly) stagnant, stultifying and generally bass-ackward, and next town over can't join the 21st Century fast enough.

Speaking of hot and cold plumbing: years ago my family was en-route to a vacation spot when we passed by a little town in Kansas. In spite of its small size, the town was unusual in that it sported not one, but two water towers. In the U.S. it's common to see a town's name lettered on its water tower, but not so with this town. Instead of featuring their town's name, they'd labelled one tower "Hot," and the other, "Cold."
