Next-Gen Prius Boasts More Power, Better Fuel Economy

Posted January 13, 2009 8:09 AM

From Wired Top Stories:

Toyota_prius_02_2 Toyota will defend itself against Honda's challenge to its eco-supremacy with a new Prius hybrid that is roomier, faster and more fuel-efficient than ever, returning an average of 50 mpg. The 2010 Prius unveiled at the Detroit auto show was among the most eagerly anticipated debuts at a show where everyone is showcasing fuel-efficient cars, hybrids and electric vehicle prototypes. But the Prius remains the gold standard and a car synonymous with hybrid technology, and Toyota hopes to sell 400,000 of them worldwide next year — a figure that would put the Prius on par with Toyota's best-selling Camry and Corolla.

I'm hyped. Probably won't be able to afford one, but the other small vehicle they're bringing (iQ 56mpg guess $15k) will be a hoot

Funny thing about the trailer. Hybrids, since they have the electrical motors, get instantaneous peak torque so they are actually a significant plus with towing. Not sure if I'd do it with a prius, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could. The hybrid Truck sensation makes sense though, not from the +2MPG (Oh my gosh!) but from a performance perspective.
