Restricting Calories May Not Extend Lifespan For Everyone

Posted January 27, 2009 8:56 AM

From Scientific American:

Scientists have long known that severely cutting food intake may lead to a longer life. But new research shows the phenom doesn't apply to everyone - or, should we say, to every mouse. A new study recently published in the online edition of the Journal of Nutrition found that reducing caloric intake only seems to prolong the lives of fat mice with low metabolisms.

Dear Scientests,

Please stop it. OK? Just cut it out. Go find something else to do for a while.

Stop telling me all the ways I might live longer. Quit advocating for us to starve ourselves or drink some foul thing or swallow a bundle of something else. Refrain from chiding me over what I eat, drink, smoke, inhale, slather on or even touch.

No matter what, my time here is limited. As someone once said, "Perfect health is merely the slowest rate at which one can die". Concentrate on finding ways to make that time more enjoyable - not longer.

Come back when you have a guaranteed thing that makes me young and beautiful and strong forever. Until then, please stay away.

Warm regards,

The Public

You might live a better quality of life if you use the spell-checker kid.

Crap. Forgot to click the s-c button. I blame old age.

Anyway, rebels like me live on the edge man. There's no time for spelling. If you want to be a square and confirm to society's grammatical rules, you go right ahead daddy-o.

But as for me I'll be spelling "scientist" with four m's and the kosher "circle K" symbol.

Your genetic code will produce repair material for your gut for just so much combined frequency and mass as you cross 30 plan to eat breakfast and early bird supper as soon to 5pm as possible. Try to stay short on trans fats. My wifes uncle lived to 106 eating eggs and drinking RC Cola twice/day. His only excursion was a trip to Burger King every Sunday afternoon for his only meal that day. He also took " one a Day" vitamins, once/day. He was very healthy and active and seemed more like he was 70. He died as a result of injuries from a car wreck (he didn't cause) after 3 days in a hospital which may have been as damaging as the car wreck.

Don't work at wearing you guts out as you get older.

These scientists can take these studies and stuff them.

I refuse to die healthy. I plan to be worn out, wasted, used up, battered and generally not worth continuing. At least I'll have enjoyed what I had.

Good luck! I just hope your "worn out, wasted, used up, battered and generally not worth continuing" period doesn't last too long. ;)

Actually I doubt it will last long. I figure I'll probably die on my motorcycle when some little old lady pulls out of a side street in front of me.
