New Telescope Could Reveal a Milky Way Packed With Habitable Planets

Posted February 27, 2009 10:08 AM

From Discover Magazine | RSS:

While astronomers have found more than 300 planets beyond our solar system in the last 15 years, none of those "exoplanets" has been a likely candidate for extraterrestrial life. The exoplanets discovered thus far are all either too close to the hot sun or too far away and therefore too frigid to host life as we know it. But Alan Boss says it's just a matter of time before we find Earth-like planets in the "Goldilocks zone": he calculates that 100 billion of them may exist within our own Milky Way galaxy. And NASA's Kepler satellite, which is expected to launch on March 5, may be the key to finding them, he says.

Milky Way doesn't come packed with planets. It's only got creamy, delicious chocolate-malt nougat. Mmmmmmmmm.

Anyway, I'm not gonna be happy until we build a telescope big enough to see some grouchy alien on Delta Pavonis 4 cleaning up the slime trail his disobedient pet Ge'moork tick (whick is kinda like a dog, only not so much) left in his backyard.

Most likely, in that situation, one would be peering into the alien's butt crack.

Not a pleasent thought...

"...one would be peering into the alien's butt crack."

You're assuming aliens only have the one crack? That's human-centric thinking. For all we know highly advanced civilizations may always have two or more.

In fact, maybe that's what those alien abductions and anal probing is all about. They're checking us for multiple butts and having found none so far they've judged us as inferior and unworthy of contact.

Maybe we should start genetically manipulating ourselves for additional butts! Seriously. I can think of lots of times that having another butt would have come in handy.

"I can think of lots of times that having another butt would have come in handy."

Why, you thinking about going into politics?

No Bricky. You're just thinking LARGER. Everybody knows that when someone enters politics they automatically become a huge a**.

I thought Michelson and Morley put an end to this idea.
