I'm not so sure that Switzerland has any claim at all to the longest tunnel . Read "Liquid Assets" by Diane Galusha, Purple Mtn. Press, in which she chronicles one of the most ambitious tunneling feats of history; the Delaware Aqueduct, stretching from the Cannonsville reservoir near Deposit, NY., and the Pepaction Res. near Downsville. 6000 miles of tunnels and aqueducts, the last of which is to be completed in 2020. We may be a backwater, but we ARE the water for for NYC and NJ.
