Soldier of the future will see through walls

Posted January 08, 2007 1:17 PM

From SCI FI Tech:

The research arm of the military is responsible for inventing a pretty sizable chunk of the technology that we enjoy on a daily basis, from the internet to GPS, so it's no surprise that soldiers get the hottest new tech years before it can be adapted for consumer use. In the coming years the military will be outfitting their soldiers with some pretty crazy new gear, including, most notably, to ability to see through walls. Yes, the supersoldiers of the future will be able to see what's going on in a room without entering it by using a radar scope the size of a walkie-talkie. Just imagine the advantages they'll have, not needing to put themselves in harms way unless absolutely necessary. Other new tech they can look forward to include guns that are networked together to tell everyone where an enemy is, artificial muscles to help with heavy lifting, and ultrasound blankets that can pinpoint and then stop internal bleeding. War ain't pretty, and the safest way to avoid getting hurt or killed is to avoid it altogether. But if there are soldiers on the ground it's good to know that they'll soon have the best protection ever invented at their disposal. Space.com, via The Raw Feed

"...ability to see through walls".

Interesting thought, and here's me thinking it was called a window!!!

Okay, just being facetious. I have no doubt that war and soldiering as I knew it will change to such an extent so as to resemble something out of a current Star Wars movie. In war, self preservation of the organism(human) is paramount, or to put in Gen. Patton's word's "Nobody's asking you to die for your country, so make sure the other SOB dies for his"

Speaking as a soldier the reason that the military wants the artificial muscles is because of all the gear that they want make us carry. Just give me a good weapon with a scope and a nice hand gun with a large clip, plenty of ammo and a way to know where my team is. Oh and some food too, preferably good food. Then get out of the way.

I will go with you on this one, nothing like a nice little MNV nite site, to brighten up any soldier's day(night). The only hassel with using IFF equipment is the possibility of the enemy using the same "freaks" as you, ergo you know the location of your team, so do the gooks. Problem! I have a slight aversion to some stranger trying to perforate me with an AK 47 or some such device!

You know what they say about army chefs being the only people that can take decent food and turn it into absolute S**T!
