Rubber-like OLED Will Display With a Twist

Posted May 12, 2009 10:03 AM

From Newlaunches.com:

The Japanese have done it again. In a research carried out at Tokyo University, a professor, Takao Someya and his team have developed a unique organic electroluminescent display that behaves just like rubber. It can be twisted, bent or flipped just like a flexible rubber pad. These have been created by spraying a layer of carbon nanotubes with a fluoro-rubber compound. This causes the material to expand and get back in shape once released. The current prototype that has been prepared as the part of the research has dimensions of 10 x 10 cm. It supports just 256 monochrome pixels. This prototype can last a thousand folds. There are many ideas that can spring out once this material is ready for use. It’s just a matter of time before this one starts getting onto our clothes as well.
