Posted June 19, 2009 9:17 AM

From msnbc.com: Tech and gadgets:

Techies and industry insiders have long known that official battery-life claims are pretty much worthless. But regular folks don't. As a result, some are getting pushed toward pricier machines by sales reps who tell them they'll get an extra hour of battery life.

The battery life in my Netbook is about 6-7 hours. However, if I multitask it can drop significantly. Wise usage of your computer on battery power is the way to maximize the life of the unit. Do you really need bigger?

At the same time, the power cord also acts as a charger, similar to a cell phone charger - it powers up your http://www.laptop-acadapter.com/dell laptop battery on an ongoing basis. http://www.laptop-acadapter.com dell chargers power supply is somewhat adaptable, therefore, making laptops portable - at least for a few hours at a time, that is. The newer models often have a battery that holds a charge for longer - five to seven hours, in some cases. Adding an additional laptop power supply - an external battery - can increase the time that you can spend away from an electric power source.

Some people recommend removing your laptop battery when you're at home or in the office, so that your laptop power supply source bypasses the http://www.laptop-acadapter.com/hewlett-packard battery when possible. However, shopping around to find exactly what you need - especially if your needs are unusual - is also worth your while.

hello all,

my dell laptop (vostro 1500) was on sale, for $600, with the expanded battery pack. that was 9 cells instead of 6. couldn't pass it up because when i checked their retail price for just the 9 cell battery, it was $300 at that time. i never checked battery life claims. i was very surprised when the battery life new was 5 hours and 30 minutes. it has gotten less with age now, but that is to be expected. with a full charge now, it only gets a little over 4 hours.

i do have my screen brightness reduced quite low. also have the screen turn off set quite quickly. i do not use my computer professionaly. it is just to read the online newspapers and blogs and a few emails.
