If this can be successfully developed so that it can be easily updated to check for new types of virus particles the potential is enormous. I could see one being use on every international flight as a screening process to prevent the spread of potential pandemic agents like an evolved SARS virus.

Unfortunately many people don't see the potential that a nasty like the SARS virus has. We so easily forget the 1918 influenza pandemic that in less than a year killed more people that the first world war in total. Imagine the potential that a virus as contagious and deadly would have today with modern jet travel. The death toll could rival all the wars we have inflicted upon ourselves combined. To date the only thing that has saved us is blind chance and nature not yet having evolved another nasty like it again.

Sooner or later out lick is going to run out and it's going to be devices like this that save our bacon.

This technology has enormous potential if it can truly be implemented.
