Fresh Water Hydrophore Tank Theory

03/22/2015 9:01 PM

Hello, experts....
I am a freshman in the ship building company. I have a question for F.W hydrophore tank theory. please see the below;
Lets take the case of hydrophore tank of 2.0 M3.

Condition under - pump on : 5.5 bar.g pump off : 6.5 bar.g , uterlized compressed air pressure : 8.0bar.g

1) How much will be compressed air volume for the above.

2) How to selct each cut in and cut off pressure.

3) How to calculate the flow rate of water at each cut-in pressure and cut-off pressure.

Please advise on to me..

A1) There will be no flow, as the vessel pressure exceeds the selected pump cut off pressure. Therefore it doesn't matter what the vessel volume is.

A2) It is a matter of judgement based upon the flow and pressure needed downstream and the maximum number of starts per hour acceptable for the pump and its starting equipment. None of these figures is available in the original post.

A3) It depends upon the pump flow/pressure curve and the system characteristic curve, neither of which can be seen from here.

  • Design must start instead from stating the flow/pressure requirements downstream, selecting the pump(s) and then selecting the vessel volume.
