For a movie set, maybe. For myself, a $100K automobile is just not going to happen.

its an interesting concept.100% new in every way but classic looks.I'd rather have a P85D for that money

I agree, the P85D would be a better choice for the money. There are several significant vehicles at this price. A factory fresh Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 lists at only $55,000. I just do not see myself ever spending this much money for any vehicle.

There's a lot to like about something like that for old farts (like me) who remember those when they first hit the streets. Except the price. I'm still putting kids through college. Although by the time I am done, I could have bought two of those.

While I am sure that there will probably be a market for them, I won't be on the list. If someone can find an old "shell" with most of it there, restoration of the unit shouldn't be that much more or less the list price noted, especially if someone had the mind to put some sweat equity into the restoration.

Apart from the price, it is still not the original vehicle. Replicas of any kind, no matter how well made, are a second choice to the original product which is special simply because it is original.

There have been lots of well made knockoffs of original marques (Porsche 911, AC Cobra, Mercedes SSK, C & D type Jaguar, etc.), all of them sell for a small fraction of what restored originals do, and this is due entirely to their much lower desirability. This will inevitably be the fate of the mustang replica.

For 1/3 of that price I would get a 2 cylinder Morgan 3 wheeler (established 1909 / reimagined 2014) said to have a top speed of 180 km/h, which is way more fun!

I´ve always preferred to own a true original, rather than a expensive copy

I saw this same question posed on Ferrari chat several years ago, someone wanted to do a replica countach, the purists also said no to the idea.

I would expect Ferrari purists to say no even to a genuine Countach.

Re: Would You Buy A Replica Mustang?

Its a strange world out there. A few years ago, the hot rod industry was crazy for 69 Camaros. There were so many companies manufacturing replacement parts for them that one day at the SEMA show a group of the companies sat around talking about weather it was possible to build a complete 69 Camaro from reproduction parts. Well, it turns out that there were only a handful of items that were not available, and they were easy items to make. In addition, some parts that were designed to be used as replacement parts had to be made differently if being used for new production.

The outcome of that day was Dynacorn. This company now sells complete replacement bodies for not only the 69 Camaro HT and convertible, but also a list of other cars and trucks that is too long for me to keep track of. Although some parts were not made to the same exact metal thickness standard, the entire assembled body had to meet all of the original build standards as the original. And for this testing, Dynacorn was allowed to sell the bodies as Camaro replacements, with GM's blessing.

The beauty of these bodies was that there was no rust. No bondo. No blank check to the body shop to repair 35 years of poorly done repairs of neglect.

So, will the market support a 100G Mustang? Time will tell.
