Full Bridge MMC Controller

03/31/2015 10:40 PM

Hello everyone,

I am developing a new project in my university and the first step is to simulate my experiment on MATLAB.

My project will be the creation of a STATCOM to inject reactive power in the grid. I am using a Statcom in delta connecting with 3 submodules per cluster. Each submodule are connected in the full bridge way, where I have 4 IGBT's to charge each capacitor.

The output of my controller is the voltage of each capacitor, but I am having problem to use this voltage to control the IGBT's.

I need a way to control four IGBT's connected in full bridge mode to reach an output voltage.

Or I can use another way to control a STATCOM.

Can someone help me out?

If someone are expert in this matter, I will be pleased to discuss further about the topic.

Thanks anyway

Welcome. My only experience is with the STATCOMs that connect up to the 22kV power grid and are the size of a 40 foot container MVAR size so I don't know how much help I will be, but I am sure others here will be.

Are you using a bridge control integrated circuit or are you trying to do it the hard way? A number of the main IC manufacturers sell these with full application datasheets and circuit diagrams. Have you looked on the internet for these to give you some ideas?

Is this a modelling exercise or are you trying to build and test a circuit? Modelling programs are not perfect and unexpected results can ensue that don't match real world operation.

I think you should come up with your own strategy, in fact I think that is the goal of this exercise....
