Temperature & Pressure Compensation in Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter

04/07/2015 11:26 AM

I have viewed a P&ID and datasheet, it mentioned a ultrasonic flow transmitter using temperature and pressure compensation. a pressure transmitter, temperature transmitter is fixed seperatly, and its cables are connected to ultrasonic flow transmitters.

Do its possible to use ultrasonic flow transmitter to measure temperature and pressure compensation..??? my friend told we should flow computers.

please someone explain.

Your friend does not know more than the equipment manufacturers do. Does s/he know what a telephone is?

Some models of clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters are capable of calculating inferred gas mass flow measurement, which requires temperature and pressure compensation. Other related energy values can also be calculated. Essentially, the flow computer is in the flow meter, instead of a separate box.

(my friend told we should flow computers ??/ flow computers????? ) I think the data sheet is enough to tell you. no one can tell more than the data sheet . you need to read it carefully.

The ultrasonic flow transmitter measures flow rate by measuring the speed of sound which is influenced by the speed of the flow. The speed of sound varies with both temperature and pressure.

If you knew the flow rate, you could determine the amount of compensation, but still not determine the temperature and pressure, because the compensation amount depends on both parameters. Various combinations of pressure and temperature would give you the same compensation.
