Looking for a metal spring ( or the metal to make the spring of), to operate at 250-280 deg C, and retain properties.

thanks

The best steel for this kind spring are SAE 6150 or 9254/52 , Cr-V or Cr Si. I hope to help you. Don't hesitate to contact me, Best regard, ccvallino@hotmail.com.

Almost all Spring made from Spring STEEL ARE QUENCHED from ABOVE 900•C and tempered at above 500•C.

At 280•C the Springs will continue behaving like the original ReadySprings-with only just a little (6%) reduction of the Spring's yield strength. That strength will be restored when spring comes back to room temp.

If you want to operate the Spring only at high Temp.- same considerations of property/cost as at room temp.

Do a Google search on "high temperature springs". Various materials are used. I happen to like the inconel alloys, but final choice will depend on detailed requirements such as creep, yield strength, fatigue, cost, etc.

I would agree with the suggestion to use Inconel, it keeps it's spring properties after repeated temperature cycling.
