I'm not a chemist and haven't tried this so try at your own risk!!

I would have thought that as concrete is fairly alkaline in composition a weak solution of acid should remove any residual streaks of concrete left...

Sulphuric acid doesn't attack glass, so why not try a weak solution to remove it?

John.

....because it contains acetic acid.

Acetic acid is far easier to handle than the commonly-used mineral acids like hydrochloric (or muriatic!) and sulphuric; in particular, the other two will try to rot other things it comes into contact with, like the frames holding the glass up perhaps! Acetic acid, white vinegar, is a good suggestion.

BTW: most proprietary window-cleaning sprays contain a measure of acetic acid in the mix, together with various surfactants. Which is why they work.

Not only will the concrete scratch (streak) the glass -- a razor blade will also mess up a pane of glass if too much pressure is applied or if the razor has broken edges or a bur on the edge. I do not have an effective method or product to suggest, your way is probably the way I would try too (very carefully).

I am surprised that the construction project manager allowed this sloppy work to happen and should hold the contractor responsible for the damage or cleaning of the concrete.

You may want to try Muriatic acid (chemical name: hydrochloric acid). It is used to clean mortar and cement off of bricks, so it should work.

I've never heard hydrochloric acid called that before, muriatic acid eh?

I shall have to use that name it sounds so much better than hydrochloric, I know I've a few pints of the stuff in the chemicals box....
