Is There Any Option in RS View for a Simple Calculator?

05/11/2015 12:57 AM

Hi;
We have an HMI designed in RS View32 Build 6.30.16 in one of our machine. Operators want to have a calculator option in it just to ADD, SUB, MUL & DIV. I can not give them option for a Windows calculator because some clever operators then enter very deep in system and play with it. Is their any option in RS View for such a simple calculator?

I would suggest that the route to examine is creating (or otherwise obtaining) a caclulator as an ActiveX component, then adding it to your RSView project.

It sounds like it would be easier to just purchase an inexpensive calculator and put it near the operator station. glue to to something so they won't steal it!

The real question here should be... how are people who gain access to a windows app able to get into the works of your RS View HMI?

Sounds like a little security work is more important then a $5 calculator tied on a string beside the HMI enclosure.

1.-Create 2 data entries in your screen, and 1 display data for the result; these all are registers, you know what I'm talking about.

2.-Write 4 rungs of logic in your PLC ladder program, each containing a simple arithmetic instruction (ADD, SUB etc.) input 1 and input 2 come from each of the data entries; and the result will be the display data register that you defined on your HMI.

3.-Add a series N.O. to make each rung TRUE only when touching the corresponding button (e.g. AND B3:0/1 or another one) on the screen.

Let me add a fourth step:

4.-The corresponding button... refers to the four function buttons that you need to create on your screen, preferably between data entry 1 and 2, something like this:

Excuse my poor drawing, it's just a suggestion. By the way the correct use of the "calculator" will be to enter the 2 values first, and then touch the function button.

Stop by your local .99 Cent store and purchase 2 dozen calculators or go on eBay and buy these!

I am pretty certain you can create a button on the HMI with an embedded link to a Windows stand-alone calculator resident either on the server (if used) or to the Windows calculator locally in the operator's machine without allowing the operator to access any other program or file.

You will most likely have to drill down into VBCOM to create the algorithms required for the executable link needed.

I am short on time but will look at this first thing in the morning and get back to you.

RSView32 lacked many features required to implement our feeder controls. Our solution was to create Visual Basic popups that were called up from RSView32

Section 14 - Page 10 deals with math operators.

I will have more info on the way soon.

http://www.rockwellautomation.com/rockwellsoftware/forms/overview.page?

Here is a link to Rockwell Automation technical support.

Also; In section 11 - Page 26 of the user manual there is an explanation on how to display a keyboard on screen.

Hope this helps but your best bet is to contact Rockwell directly for guidance.

Pocket calculators can be had for less than £10 retail these days. Try the local Stationers shop, perhaps?

Many modern telephones can do this as well.
