Mustang 2054 Skid Steer

05/30/2015 6:26 AM

Can anybody help me with what safety features these machines have with regards to operator interlocks? Also what is their stability like? Do they have a steering mechanism that provides a "triangle of stability" similar to a forklift?

Thank you very much Ozzb for the useful link. It answers the interlock bit.

Yes. The equipment manufacturer can do this with certainty. Do let the forum know how the telephone conversation went.

Thank you for this. For sure the manufacturer would be able to answer but I live in the Southern hemisphere and time and distance would make the call tricky and expensive. My query arose because I am not familiar with these machines and I have been asked to look at one that was involved in an accident, as an independent engineer. I shall be talking to the local agent of course but it is always good to have some prior knowledge to know what to ask, and to gauge the level of "conflict of interest" that might arise. For this reason I have adopted the anon moniker too.

You should disqualify yourself as not capable of rendering a competent decision.

Not to mention lacking any ethics. Adopting the anon moniker speaks volumes about your lack of professionalism, and ethics. How would you ever put this information into a report?

Asking the uninformed opinion of other anonymous "non-experts" will not strengthen your position, no matter what it is.

Don't take money for something about about which you KNOW NOTHING.

I know plenty about other similar machines, just not this brand. If you bothered to read my comment you would see that I was looking for background information to formulate questions. Nothing from CR4 would go in a report, I only report on what I see, test and find.

....and you've never swung an idea past your mates for sanity checking?

OP even though an AP is looking for some inside clues. Not everything is documented and there is always a first time for every thing.

I hope.

Swung an idea? Sure.

Ask for advice from total strangers in order to render an "expert opinion"? No.

"I am not familiar with these machines"

"I know plenty about other similar machines"

Skid steer machines are the skate boards of construction equipment - somewhere between a wheel barrow and real construction equipment. They are the cheap solution to what can be done even better with the same size articulating loader-backhoe-excavator-whatever, unless, of course, what you really need is a tiny bull dozer and your skid steer is equipped with tracks.

I had to change out the cable spool recoil on an electric Bobcat. I took it for "spin" inside a boxcar. I beat the crap out of the inside of that boxcar! If it weren't for the safety harness, I would have been bad shape. The operator had made it look easy.

Go to Youtube and look up "Dancing Skid Steer"

also look up "skid steer fails"

They're a lot of fun however
