Are you looking for a free download, or do you want to purchase such a program?

Having pics etc i presume you are not talking about household appliances where simple on off switches will be sufficient.

The max232 seems to indicate that you are looking at serial communication via the serial port.

You however need to supply more detail.

Does the system require any command codes or is the intention to use the control lines?

Is flow control required? (Hardware, software XON = XOFF)

Should the program receive data or feedback from the appliance?

Computer operating system?

I am a Fortran, HP basic, Assembler and Pascal user. and never did C.

I have done some switching with the serial port. The easiest is to uses the control lines directly.

The following Assembler code can be used

MOV DX , 3FCH ; control register port 1

MOV AL,nn : switch value

OUT DX,AL : throw the switches

nn = 0 both off

= 1 DTR on line 4 on 9 pin 20 on 25pin

= 2 RTS on line 7 on 9 pin 4 on 25 pin

= 3 DTR and RTS on

Signal ground - line 5 on 9 pin and 7 on 25 pin.

On the other side you need a relay/or solid state relay, The PIC would be capable.

The chip on the interface card will determine the open and send procedures.
