Stripping Hydrogen Sulfide on Gas

06/17/2015 9:32 AM

Hello, how did they do stripping of unwanted gas from natural gas. I really appreciate your help, even so just a conceptual approach would do.

Internet search with keywords:

"H2S removal from natural gas"

is needed.

Tell us what you find.

Who is: "They" and did they really do it?

you would scrub it.

It has to do with a process creating a nucleation, here's a link

The HS is molecularly transformed by chemical reaction...

H2S is dangerous, evn in the ppm range.

What they do is send the stream through a molsiv bed (balls or pellets in a tank) based on sintered Al oxyde. Typical 2- 3 A.

H2S gets adsorbed in and on the pellets and the other gas come out at the output.

Industrials were and are:

Union Carbide, U.O.P., Linde, Honeywell.

Before the bed is saturated, a next one will be switched in and the first one will be backflow regenerated, recovering the H2S.

There are different ways, but most are or more contaminating (like in water) or more expensive.

This is how pro's strip.

and those scrubber balls/pellets have to get cleaned after its saturated

as I wrote in line 7 and 8. In refineries and gas plants there is a automatic regeneration system with 2 or more tanks (up to 100.000 liter), One is regenerating with a fraction of the flow as loss, while the other one strips.

Didn't refute your post. We have multiple scrubbers at our plant.

That's one way that pro's strip and also you haven't addressed what to do with the H2S you back flowed from the beds.

I am more familiar with absorbing the H2S into an amine solution (MEA or DEA) then stripping the H2S (with fuel gas).

The stripped H2S is then sent to a Claus unit to make sulphur. Unfortunately because Tengiz is so sour there is a backlog of Sulphur at the dock in Atyrau and we are making more sulphur than we know what to do with.

The methodology used is dependent on the H2S content int he feed gas and the limit for the transmission gas. Also the MEA / DEA can be used to remove some of the CO2 to boost the calorific value of the gas.

I really have gone as far as I can, since I am not qualified to talk processes in further detail on a site. (Clients pay for our help)

Depending on many factors, clients process according needs and markets.

There are quite some options to commercialize the H2S, if available in vast quantities.

Yes one has to draw the line on intellectual properties and is understandable.

Isn't there a sulphuric acid plant anywhere near that you could sell it to?

There are probably a couple of Nazi's left somewhere in the world that could help you out on that...

Nah, I don't have any political interest with Nazi's. What ever they are up to, I am not concerned.

Proud member of the peaceful, intellectual and loving ordinary people in this Earth.

I just thought of why not innovating a H2S scrub/stripper typically for local biogas application and use. The gas from the digester if not treated, is corrosive to kitchen utensils might as well to any metal structure around the house.

Assuming H2S would also cause health problems when often exposed to it, why not constructing something cheap and worth to be puzzled with.
