Static Electric Charge Generating Material

07/10/2015 12:35 PM

Hello, is there a meterial which could convert mechanical energy directly to electric charge? What best material to handle such what element period and group suitable for its development?

Mechanical what?

What would you like to do with this static charge? It will be DC at some fairly high voltage but with a fairly low energy level.

Exactly what do you intend to do with your low energy static charge?

The plush carpet on the second floor of the Sears store and leather soled shoes can build a static charge that will jump 4" from the index finger to a collogues earlobe.

That's called a magneto...

One of these hooked to an ignition coil might be exciting!

Ok! SolarEagle where did you find that and what is it's original intended purpose? Manual/hand cranked battery charger? Or did you as a kid in high school wire up your buddy's desk chair when they fell asleep just to see how high they could jump with the desk attached to them for fun.

Try one of these. it's a Van de graaff generator!

Find a spark ignition lighter (look in crack house). Take lighter apart down to the little piezoelectric ignition cartridge, inside that is a crystal that produces electricity when it is struck, touch the tip of your tongue to the little metal projection and squeeze the cartridge.

There is a device you can make, consisting of any small box of a shape that requires you pick it up by the sides, with these sides having aluminum tape, the circuit consists of a D cell and any coil that would produce an inductive spike, interrupted by a nail coated for a short distance under the head, passing through a sheet metal plate in the box bottom, whereby the nail acts as an "interrupter" when the box is lifted past the coating, to produce a charge on the aluminum coated sides. There is additional action produced by muscle reaction causing the nail to shake or "Shake Circuit".

The application of instructions to the box top, i.e. "Do not touch" can be considered a test of comprehensive capacity, with reaction time and any repetitive events, a test of "Gomerisim".

Amber rubbed on animal fur.

In fact, the word "electric" comes to us from the Latin word for amber, electrum (which itself came from the Greek work for amber, elektra, which came from the Phonecian word for "shining light", elekron). In Latin conjugations, electric means "from amber" because people noticed, back in ancient times, that when they used animal fur to try to polish their precious amber jewelry, it made a painful spark.

You want a piezoelectric material.

They can be obtained from many sources, and there are even polymers which have this property.

They work both ways. Push, twist, deform them and they give off a charge, (piezoelectric guitar pickups) and input a current and they will react mechanically (piezoelectric actuator).

Piezoelectricity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

READ the material!!!!!!

See #7 for a practical demonstration of a piezoelectric generator.

The tribo-electric series is a table of materials arranged in their affinity for electrons. The greatest electrostatic effect is achieved using materials widely separated in the table.

There was a man from...... what rhymes with Tribo? had two balls made out of..... He rubbed them together and made stormy weather and electrostatic discharge shot out of his stern.

The mechanical activity inside a storm cloud seems to generate loads of static electricity.

Maybe one candidate best material is "cloud".
