But if it's going to just fly past Pluto, and at a considerable distance, won't these objects, as well as the spacecraft, end up in deep space? This is sorta like waiting for Santa, and having him wave as he goes by,,bummer...

I think it's really cool that they sent Clyde Tombaugh's ashes along for the ride. That's the least they could do after deplanetizing his discovery.
