1990 GMC Sierra 1500

07/18/2015 4:58 PM

The caliber was replaced. The rotator was turned. The brakes were relined. The right front brake stays on after it is applied. How can I fix this?

TAKE IT TO A SHOP!!!

Don't try to "fix" this any more.

Could be a collapsed brake hose, dirty brake hardware etc. You should not try to fix this yourself!!!!

TAKE IT TO A SHOP!!!

And, it's caliper and rotor.

Replace the flexible rubber break line. It's inner liner has collapsed and plugged the line preventing the fluid from going back to the master cylinder.

Also do the other side as well. When on goes the other is usually right behind it.

The calipers move on lubricated pin, protected by rubber boots.

The rubber perishes, water enters, the pin rusts. The huge force of brake application closes the calipers on the rotors along the lubricated pin -normally a 2 way action, with hydraulic pressure to apply the braking force and a return spring to open the caliper again when brakes are released..

When the braking force is released and the pin has corroded, the spring is not enough to open the brakes and that brake stays applied = gets hot and wears free. Next time you brake = repeated = that shoe wears fast.

Cure, replace the caliper. Often replace them all, since where one has failed, the others may follow. Caliper replacement is within the capabiity of the average home mechanic, who can replace brake shoes, bleed brake lines etc.

It is also a crooked dealer cash cow. Use the search to find loaded calipers for your car - all 4 wheels and ask for a quote from a small shop or from a dealer to compare.

youtube has many videos, find one for your car. Asses if you can do this yourself.

It can be done one wheel at a time, with proper jacks and safety stands in 30 minutes per wheel. Once done, bleed the brakes. Save half the cost.

Also get quotes on new rotors. I did a search on a Dodge

search for a loaded caliper.

Open the bleeder on the right side caliper.

If fluid runs out under pressure, and the brake releases, you have a flex line that has

gone bad;either collapsed,or shed some of it's inner lining, clogging the return port of

the master cylinder.

Replace it and the other side and bleed the entire system.

I had the exact problem on a 1973 Chevy truck, and this cured it.

Good luck.

Simply take it back to where the work was carried out and ask for a warranty repair. One could always use the threat of the local Trading Standards office and publication of the story in various social media outlets as additional leverage, as well as threatening to take all future work to one of its competitors.

Good luck.
