That's a rare bird.

The Vampire Preservation Group operates WZ507 (G-VTII), believed to be the only airworthy de Havilland Vampire T11 in the northern hemisphere

Dear Mr. Fredsski,

Yester day I read one news coverage under caption "BIGGEST PASSENGER AIR CRAFT READY FOR TEST FLIGHT" The picture is similar to this but with 5 nos. of JET Engines.

I tried to re-locate that news and copy the photo and put it here. I will try to post it.

Stratolaunch: biggest plane in the world to take off next year ...

The Stratolaunch packs in six jet engines and 28 wheels, to support a 385-foot wingspan.

But that report suggests its main function is high altitude to space launch, which is why it looks like its carrying an ICBM inits middle. The two hull sections don't look big enough to carry a significant passenger or freight payload so its hardly a passenger plane

I am sure it could be adapted to be one but at three times the width of a 747 its landing fees will be enormous as it will take up 3 jetways at a terminal and for some terminals it might not be possible to even get it to the terminal from the runway - my recent landing at Beijing makes me think that might be a problem at that airport.

You have failed to keep up with the conversation.

The ONLY reference to passenger aircraft was to the Airlander 10,

by dhayanandhan which uses V8 engines for power, not jets.

That post led us off topic. My post was to clarify that reference.

Other than that post, the entire thread has NOT been about "passenger" aircraft.

Your trip to China is irrelevant, since this aircraft requires at least 12,000 feet of length and much wider runways than passenger airports now have.

There must be a target on my back today.

Ready, fire, aim!

lyn I am really sorry if you though I was having a pop there is clearly something adrift in my posting lately

However I did see that most of the post had been about military aircraft which was why I responded only in the part of the thread started by DHAYANANDHAN, to which I thought your post was a clarification so I was trying to understand how the plane which you posted was intended as a passenger vehicle - which clearly from your post it isnt you were as I now see addressing merely the issue of the largest plane being tested.

So sorry about that.

As an aside. Whilst the runways wont be wide enough for the stratolauncher Beijing, Shanghai and Incheon all have at least two runways longer than 12000 ft (at least according to wiki)

No apology needed.

We were all misled by dhayanandhan's post about passenger aircraft.

Scaled Composites is located near Edwards Air Force Base in the California desert. I've been there and there is plenty of room for a runway to accommodate the monster jet, Stratolaunch, the subject of my post.

My father worked for Lockheed Aircraft for a short time in the early 60's. He worked in the canopy division vacu-forming the cockpit canopies for the P-38.

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is a World War II American fighter aircraft. Developed to a United States Army Air Corps requirement, the P-38 had distinctive twin booms and a single, central nacelle containing the cockpit and armament.

Closely related to the P51. Almost two P51s joined at the wings, with a single cockpit.

They're related only by their era. That's not completely true. The original P-51A also had the same Allison V-1710 engine as the P-38 but without the same turbosupercharger configuration as the P-38 design. I think it was the "lend lease" program that brought the design of the Merlin engine used in many RAF planes of WWII to the P-51B and later variants.
