Actually... that is a false urban legend that Tang was developed for the space program. Or at least I am pretty sure it is false.

is changed when NASA decided to use it in 1962 during John Glenn's Mercury flight and later in 1965 for the Gemini program. In both instances, the Tang was used to improve the poor taste of the water from the life support system.

I too, seem to recall that Tang was not invented for space travel, but as a result of orange crop failures(for whatever reasons I cannot recall), and we all still had to have our OJ in the morning.
